How did this all get started and where did Something Groovy come from? Well, back in 2018 I started feeling a little self-conscious wearing my Rolex submariner watch, The dive watch was something I had thought I always wanted, but it turned out to feel a little pretentious and it was kind of big and chunky, so I sold it and bought an old dusty and rusty 1974 red Volkswagen VW Van. I have never owned, driven, or even been inside a Volkswagen bus, and I’m not sure exactly why I decided to purchase one, but it felt like the right thing to do at the time, so I did it! I figured at the very least, it would be fun to make local deliveries in, hauling T-shirts, canvas prints, and paintings, (and drums and guitars too, but more about that later).
Often when I drive the Luna the VW Van people smile, honk, give me a thumbs-up, and of course wave the Peace sign. This van sure gets a lot of “smiles” per gallon. I quickly realized that there was more to this groovy little bus than I first thought, and with the help of my friend Sandy, (and many other friends and family:) began the process of renovating the VW Micro-Bus.
Sandy and I began to work on T-shirt designs, original art and music, and promotions celebrating all things GROOVY. You know, all the fun, beautiful, and silly parts of this adventure we are all sharing called life. This is what Something groovy is all about. Make the most of each day, spread art, music, love, and everything else that you enjoy and that makes people smile.
Now back to the music thing. I’ve been banging on guitars, drums, and just about any instrument I could get my hands on since I was a kid. I have always found joy and escape in writing and playing music, I even built a sound studio in my art studio! I encouraged Sandy to give the drums a try, and she took to it like a duck to water! Soon Sandy and I and friends were jamming!
We celebrate and share our VW Bus, art, music, and designs, and we love to see people’s smiles and reactions when we do!
We’ve thought about and worked on this for the last few years, and we finally feel ready, (and nervous) to take the leap with this artistic endeavor and share our experiences and creative expressions along the way. We hope to inspire, positivity, fun-loving, and happy groovy vibes through our art, music, and apparel. Hang on! it may be a bumpy ride, but it’ll definitely be entertaining, and full of fun, laughter, love, and groovyness!
